What’s Working For Us Right Now ~ Curriculum 2012-2013

by shara.anderson on August 14, 2012

The school year is coming upon us.  Where did the summer go??

We are planning to start school next week.  I think we are all ready for a little more structure around here again.  I printed off new chore charts this morning and the kids were “playing school” today (If you missed the chores video I did with Becky you should check it out).  I have a few loose ends left, but mostly things are pulled together.

For those of you intrigued by curriculum or still trying to figure out what to do here is what we are planning to use for the 2012-2013 school year for Cade (nearing 8) and Ella (6 1/2).

Adventures in My Father’s World will be our base curriculum.  We used My Father’s World last year and overall we really liked it.  We will be going through United States History this year.  I’m really excited about it.  My Father’s World covers Bible, history, science and reading.  There are optional music and art components that you can purchase and they have recommendations for math and language.

These are some of the books about the United States that are a part of the Adventures in My Father’s World deluxe package.

These are some books I will be reading to the kiddos.  (Part of MFW deluxe package).

This is our Science.  (Part of MFW package).

Some Music (part of MFW package).

Art (included in the deluxe package).

This is Cade’s Language Arts this year.  It is recommended by My Father’s World but it does not come in any of the packages.

This is what Ella and I worked in last year for Phonics and we’ll continue in this for 10-15 minutes a day.  (Not part of MFW).

This may be an evening read aloud with Dad.  I tried this quite a while ago, and I think it was still beyond Cade and Ella, but I am hoping we will jump into it this year, but not as part of the “school day”.  (This is separate from MFW).

This is a character curriculum that is simple and focuses on one area of character at a time in the Bible, at home, at school, and at play.  It’s something we’ve done a couple of times, but I’m thinking that if we do 1 character trait a month that would be great.  This is also separate from MFW.

We will also continue with Math U See for math.  It has been a good fit especially for Cade.

I did a couple of posts during the 2011-2012 school year about what curriculum we used.  Those posts are HERE and HERE.

What curriculum are you using this year?

Blessings on your year,
