Immitating

“Successful parenting means:

One, becoming what you should be.  And two, staying close enough to the children for it to rub off.”  ~Anne Ortlund

You know how there are times where God keeps reiterating something to you?  Sometimes, it may just be your awareness.  Like when you purchase a different vehicle and all of a sudden that same car is seemingly everywhere.  Sometimes though, it is probably something that you I need to hear.

I am reading Disciplines of the Home, by Anne Ortlund, which is where I got the quote above.  Then, on Sunday, our interim pastor spoke on imitating Christ in a sermon he titled, “You’re Just Like Your Father”.  (You can listen to it here).  He was speaking from Ephesians 5 and talked about how our kids become like us not by taking notes and purposely mimicking our actions, but just by being around us and taking on our mannerisms.  The ultimate point was that we become more like Christ by being with Him and not merely by trying to duplicate His actions.

I have to be honest, the fact that our kids just pick up and naturally imitate us scares me a bit.  It is in these things being reiterated in my life that I am resolving (by God’s grace), to “become who I am supposed to be”.

Blessings to you,
